Introducing... The 2011 #ChevySXSW Roadtrip Challenge

Who doesn’t like a good roadtrip? Here at Chevy, we take our roadtrips very seriously, as you may have seen during last year’s SXSW. Last year, Chevy sent eight teams from all over the country down to Austin for SXSW, setting them up with loads of fun challenges for a little friendly competition along the way. This year, the Roadtrip is back in full force, with 10 teams, including two from Canada and two from defending champs’ city, Detroit. But this isn’t going to be just any old roadtrip—this year’s trip comes with all the fun of last year, mixed in with community involvement (with the nonprofit Adopt-a-Classroom) and a touch of mystery—so don’t expect us to be spilling all the details any time soon! So to officially kick it off, meet your 2011 Roadtrip captains:

Chicago, IL - Jessica Murray

Jessica_murray

Jessica is the community manager for Social Media Club global, so she knows her stuff. She also loves to travel, so this should be right up her alley, because she’s got some long travel days in her near future. Check her out here.

Columbus, OH - Nate Riggs

Nate is a social business strategist, working with companies to incorporate social media teams into their communications strategies. His competitive nature—usually focused on soccer, running or other sports—will serve him well in this year’s Roadtrip Challenge. Learn more about Nate here.

Detroit, MI - Bobby Mercader

Bobby is a social media coordinator for Furniture Crate in Detroit. He can look forward to feeding his Foursquare addiction throughout his trek through the U.S. in a few weeks.

Detroit, MI - Nikki Stephan

Nikki is a PR & social media strategist at Identity PR, and is also involved in several Detroit community organizations. Check out her street cred here. She claims she “can’t sit still,” so we wish her well during the three-day car ride coming up.

Florida - Summer Boone

Summer is a Director of Assimilation and Social Media at Church by the Glades. A self-professed “Twitaholic” and iPhone addict, we’re sure her trip to Austin will be well-documented. Find Summer here.

Los Angeles, CA - Kaylee Hawkins

Kaylee_hawkins2

Kaylee is a PR/digital marketing geek & nonprofit junkie looking for new opportunities in the Los Angeles area. She’s worked with human and animal rights, education and youth leadership development organizations in the past—and we think she’s going to like this year’s “do-good” aspect of the trip.

New York - Rob Blatt

Rob_blatt2

Rob is an Interactive Manager for Symphony Space in Manhattan. When he’s not working, he’s heading up The League of Amateur Competitive Eaters, taking NYC’s greatest eating challenges. Sounds like there will be some fun lunch stops in line for Team NYC. Check out Rob here.

Omaha, NE - Scott Hale

Scott_hale2

Scott is a digital strategist, community manager and high-fiver. He’s a self-professed music lover, so we have a feeling he’ll be Team Omaha’s DJ during the trip. See what Scott’s up to here.

Toronto, ON, CA - Jeremy Wright

Jeremy_wright2

Jeremy is co-founder of the blog network b5media and CEO of BNOTIONS tech development shop. He also runs Loser Karaoke in Toronto—we see lots of bad singing during Team Toronto’s long drive down. Find more on Jeremy here.

Vancouver, BC, CA - John Biehler

John_biehler2

John is an e-business analyst, along with a technologist, consultant, conference speaker/attendee, trainer, gamer, traveler, and photo buff—we’re looking forward to the photos we get from Team Vancouver’s extra-long trek! Learn more about John here.

Good luck to all the teams! Team NC had a blast on the drive last year. One of a kind experience thanks to Chevy and my awesome teammates. I'll be looking in on the fun times from home-base this week. Be safe, and remember - no texting or blogging while driving, Oprah is watching.
